Today is Peter’s birthday and the sun has come out to make it special.  The family have been organised and he had cards and presents just like at home.

Out on the grass a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly was enjoying a dandelion and the sun was beginning to come out.

There was a wonderful light across the sand as we drove down to Castlebay…

… And on Traigh Mhor the vast strand where the  planes land and take off there was a cockle picker at work.

A lovely splash of yellow with Birds Foot Trefoil in this rock face…

Another theme today could be reflections.  The air and the water is so clear on Barra, as shown by this photo of a boat on one of the lochs.

We kept an eye (and ear) out for the Cuckoo near the deserted village and were rewarded.  He was sitting on the same post I had seen him for the first time but this time I managed to get a good photo.

I hadn’t realised that the male (which this one is) is the only one that actually calls ‘cuckoo’.

Down at Easary we did our usual thing – me painting and Peter bird watching.  He took some amazing photos:

Another gull was harassing a Whimbrel – maybe a nest?

And talking of reflections, these two photos show the secrets of the deep…

Back at the campsite, Peter barbecued the fillet steak we had bought at the Co-op and it was the best we have ever had.

Outside a a baby Meadowpipit sat on a post…
