Well, our luck is holding and we woke up today, after a chilly night (good old fan heater) to bright sunshine and Bessie posed proudly in her orchard.
And, no, that’s not a giant aerial at the back there but a wind turbine. It was working overtime last night but has now calmed down quite a lot.
So, off to Brancaster Staithe on the north coast of Norfolk we go, stopping only at our favourite farm shop for some crusty bread, cake and other nice treats. The houses along the coast road are typical of the area – brick with stone or flint inserts.
Arriving at Brancaster Staithe itself, we were pleased to see that the Crab Hut was open for business…
… and the tide was out, leaving the many small boats either beached or in shallow water.
Everywhere we looked there were waders poking around in the mud for food. Just a few of them:
And, if you’re wondering, we managed to fit in the cockles and crusty bread and butter as well!
A great day out – let’s hope tomorrow is just as good!
Great selection of waders and beautifully photographed. Back to my rightful spot!

Wow, what a selection of birds. Glad that dad got the cockles he was looking forward to.

Used to love going cockling when the tide was out at Heacham,on The Wash, where we used to holiday as kids. Nostalgia!

I wouldn’t have the energy to go cockling these days – they always taste better up here though. 🙂
